1. How much money will I save by using Schoolcomms?
Although this inevitably varies from school to school, our research shows that significant net savings are made by schools using Schoolcomms.
• A typical primary school (with 210 pupils on roll) could save over £3,000 net, every year
• A typical secondary school (with 890 students) could save over £5,000 net, every year
2. How does the integration with SIMS work?
Schoolcomms is seamlessly integrated with SIMS. You can access Schoolcomms from the Focus menu and licence holders have a new ‘Send Message’ button on the Student details, SEN, Behaviour Management and Exclusions screens which enables you to send text and email messages directly from SIMS.
Schoolcomms reads data from SIMS; names, groups and contact details. For more information see
SIMS links
3. How does Schoolcomms deal with parents with more than one child?
Schoolcomms automatically strips out any duplicates to the same email address or mobile number so the parents will only receive one copy, unless the message has the child’s name inserted with a wild card.
4. Can I see whether the messages have been delivered?
Yes – you can just look in the Sent Items folder and see the delivery status of the messages.
5. Is the messaging two way?
Yes, parents can quickly and easily respond to your emails and text messages by clicking ‘Reply’.
6. What about parents without email?
When you have sent a message, any recipients without an email address are shown in a report, either by registration group for easy distribution of paper copies, or with addresses drawn from SIMS for mail merge. Any duplicates are removed for people living at same addresses for maximum efficiency.
7. Can I send messages to more than one contact per student?
Yes, you can choose which combination of contact priority/parental responsibility parents to bring in from SIMS, and you can also choose which people are flagged as ‘prime contacts’. Then, when sending a message, you can choose whether it is appropriate to send it to all contacts or just the prime contacts.
8. Can I write data back to SIMS?
When parents respond to an unexplained absence message you can write the relevant absence mark to SIMS and also the parent comment so that all the teachers know the reason for absence.
9. Can I send messages to the teachers of a particular student?
Yes, when selecting recipients you can choose either ‘Today’s teachers’ or ‘All teachers’ of a student. These details are picked up from the timetable information in SIMS and also include the registration tutor and Head of Year.
10. How quick is it to get started?
Schoolcomms is easy to install, just taking a few minutes to download from the web site. Getting started is easy too, just a click of the button and all the data you need is imported from SIMS. Any help you may need with this is at the end of the phone from one of our friendly team.
